French Conjugation Practice: 10 Free Questions
Ten French conjugation questions in the présent, free and playable right here. You type the verb, it is corrected the moment you answer, and anything you get wrong comes back before the round ends. Below the drill, the full présent table of the same ten verbs: parler, être, avoir, aller, finir, prendre, faire, pouvoir, attendre and vouloir.

Accents are not marked here, so êtes and etes both count. Ten questions, présent only. The full drill runs six tenses over 300 verbs, offline, in one file.
The présent of the ten verbs, in full
Every form the drill can ask you for. Read it after the round rather than before: looking up the answer you just missed is what makes it stay.

Why typing beats recognising
Most conjugation exercises online give you four options to click. You can pick the right one without being able to produce it, which is exactly the gap that shows up the moment you have to speak. Here you type the form, so you either have it or you do not, and the drill finds out in one keystroke.
The sentences matter too. A conjugation learned inside Nous ___ le projet is a sentence you can reuse; a form learned in a table is a line you can recite. Every question here is a real sentence, taken from the paid drill unchanged.
The five forms that cost the most marks
Il attend ends in a d you never hear, and writing il attends is the single most common slip in the -re group. Nous finissons takes the -iss- that the -ir group inserts in the plural, which is why finir and partir behave differently.
Then the three that simply have to be known: vous faites and vous êtes, which refuse the -ez every other verb takes, and ils prennent, where the n doubles and the vowel changes. Four of the ten questions above are built around these on purpose.
How to practise so it sticks
Short and often. Ten questions a day will take you further than an hour on Sunday, because conjugation is motor memory before it is knowledge: you are training a hand and a mouth to produce an ending without consulting a rule.
Say the sentence out loud as you type it. Half of French conjugation is silent on the page and audible nowhere, and the half that is audible is the half you will need first.
When ten questions stop being enough
The same drill, with 300 verbs instead of ten and six tenses instead of one. It keeps a record of the verbs that catch you out and hands them back more often, which is what turns practice into progress.
- 300 verbs, 6 tenses, over 12,600 questions
- A timer mode, for when you need the answer to come without thinking
- One file you download and keep, opening with no connection
Questions
- Is this French conjugation practice really free?
- Yes. The ten questions run in your browser, you type the answers and they are corrected straight away, with no account and no email address. The paid drill exists for the other 290 verbs and the other five tenses, not to unlock this page.
- Which tense does this cover?
- The présent only, which is where most of the marks are lost: the silent d of il attend, the double s of nous finissons, and the handful of vous forms that break the rule, vous faites and vous êtes. The full drill adds the imparfait, the passé composé, the futur simple, the futur proche and the impératif.
- Do accents count?
- No. A missing accent or a straight apostrophe is still marked right, here and in the paid drill. At this level the ending is what is being tested, not your keyboard layout.
- What happens when I get one wrong?
- It comes back. The round does not simply end with a score: whatever you missed is handed to you again before you are finished. That requeue is the whole method, and it is why ten questions are worth more than a page of tables you read once.
- What is in the paid drill that is not here?
- 300 verbs instead of ten, six tenses instead of one, over 12,600 questions, a timer mode and a progress record that remembers which verbs keep catching you out. It is one file you download and keep, and it opens with no connection.
