These 60 free French B2 flashcards cover all 25 topics tested at B2 level, at least two words each, from la présomption d'innocence and le communiqué de presse to être aux anges and l'économie collaborative. Every card carries native audio, flips to reveal the French, and returns on a spaced repetition schedule. They run in your browser, with no account and nothing to download.

What B2 vocabulary is for

B2 is the level that opens doors: French citizenship, most French universities, and a good number of jobs. The Framework describes it as interacting fluently enough that a conversation with a native speaker costs neither of you any effort.

The vocabulary stops being about your life and starts being about the world. Le communiqué de presse, la présomption d'innocence, la désertification and l'économie collaborative are the words of somebody reading a newspaper, not ordering a coffee.

Precision is the B2 skill

At B2 you stop needing more words and start needing the exact one. Le fleuve and la rivière both come out as river in English, but a fleuve runs to the sea and a rivière runs into another river. The Seine is a fleuve. An examiner notices which one you picked.

Register works the same way. Souligner, affirmer and chuchoter are three ways of saying something, and the wrong one changes the meaning of the whole sentence. This is where the deck spends most of its cards.

Where these words show up in the DELF B2 and the TCF

The DELF B2 writing paper asks for an argued text: a letter to a newspaper, a formal complaint, an article. Connectors and reporting verbs carry it, which is why souligner and il convient de noter que are on this list.

The oral is a defence of a position built from a short press article, so press vocabulary is not optional. Le communiqué de presse and la présomption d'innocence are the language of the documents you will be handed on the day.

Frequently asked questions

What separates B1 from B2?

Precision and abstraction. At B1 you can give an opinion. At B2 you can defend it against someone who disagrees, quote a source, and concede a point without losing your thread. The vocabulary follows: more connectors, more reporting verbs, more exact synonyms.

Is B2 the level required for French citizenship?

B2 is the language level set for naturalisation, and the interview is conducted at that level. The language certificate is one piece of the file rather than the whole of it, and the requirements do change, so confirm the current ones with your préfecture.

Is this deck useful for the DALF C1?

As a foundation, yes, because C1 assumes everything at B2 is already automatic. It is not a C1 deck though. C1 vocabulary comes mostly from reading long texts in your own field, not from lists.

Do I have to learn all 600 cards?

No. Nobody uses 600 words at the same rate. The full deck filters by topic so you can drill what your exam or your job actually touches, and leave the wildlife vocabulary alone if it is not your subject.

Is the audio the same as in the paid deck?

Identical. The same recordings, made with Google's neural French voices, on all 60 cards here and on all 600 in the full deck.

Want someone to practise these with?

I'm Camille, a native French teacher. Vocabulary you have only ever read stays passive. In a lesson you have to use it, which is when it becomes yours.
